        In the post Independence India, in accordance with the policy of formation of states based on language, Maharashtra state was shaped in a new form on 1st May, 1960 based on Marathi language. There are 4 National parks and more than 25 Sanctuaries in Maharashtra. However Maharashtra is more known to us as an Industrial centre. Household articles of every sort and variety are being produced in greater Mumbai and its adjoining areas. Mumbai is called the Hollywood of the east for its famous film industry.  Mumbai produces 300 films annually, holds the rank next to Hong Kong as a film producing centre in the world. Cinema halls are available in plenty in the city of Mumbai.

             The main feature of the Industrial and commercial city Mumbai is its gorgeous and dazzling sky-scrappers and developed by land-fillings the coastal line of the Arabian Sea. Gradually the ocean is in retreat as the sprawling megopolis encroaches the sea. Mumbai has been awarded the best city of India. The few main attraction of this place are Flora Fountain or stream which was built in the honor of Governor of Mumbai but later renamed as Hutatma Chawk, dedicated to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for their motherland, adjoining the Flora is St. Thomas Cathedral built in Gothic style. The foremost attraction of is the Gateway of India, the entrance to India for those who land in India from abroad by sea. Marine is also quite renowned in Mumbai. The panoramic view of this spectacular beach from where one can enjoy the enthralling dawn and dusk. On the time of sunset the sky turns golden with a patch of red on the horizon and the silver sands reflects the last rays of the sun, which form a delightful ambiance in this island.

          Pune also has many tourists attraction such Gandhi National museum,  Pataleswar Guhamandir(cave temple) Race course, Rajneeshdham Ashram, Tribal Museum. It also has a beautiful place Lonavala on the western slope of Sahyadri hill in Maharashtra is the ideal place for honeymoon. It has an unpolluted environment and refreshing climate. 

Brief History of Maharashtra-

        The history of Maharashtra is very old- the old mythological Vidarbha kingdom was in current Maharashtra. From Sakas to Guptas of the north and Chalukyas to Rashtrakuta of central south- the land of Maharashtra came under several empires throughout its history. The relics of the British era in today’s Maharashtra attract the attention of the tourists. The contribution of the British behind the growth of Bombay cannot be denied. It was in Pune in Maharashtra that the Indians gathered and formed Indian National Congress i.e. Congress was born.  

Demographic-

        In the past Buddhist, Jainism and Hinduism were predominating in Maharashtra. Maharashtra accounts for 80% of the cave temples in India or more than 1000 in number. We find large numbers of inhabitants in Maharashtra from all over the India. Not only Marathi but also Hindi, English and Guajarati are spoken by the people in Maharashtra. . Rate of literacy in Maharashtra is 77%. The service sectors including films, business, tourism, public administration, banking and finance, transportation, and communication dominate the economy of Maharashtra and main sources of the earning livelihood of the citizens of Maharashtra. Climate-

        It has a pleasant climate throughout the year. Basically it has a tropical wet and dry climate. It experiences 3 main types of climate such as winter, summer and rainy. Summer seasons from March-June; winter from November-February; rainy months are July and August.
